One of the most anticipated games being released for the holiday season has been recalled. LittleBigPlanet, a game expected to help move consoles for the struggling Playstation 3, has been recalled and delayed because "one of the background music tracks that was licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur'an." The game will now be shipped sometime during the following week.
For all of those keeping track at home, this means that the following two things are true:
1) Brutally murdering thousands of people in horrific fashion: OK in a video game
2) Quoting the Qur'an: Not OK
Is Sony implying that quoting the Qur'an is more evil then mass murder?
Also note that the entire premise of the game is the ease of user generated content. That means that we can all expect a flurry of Qur'an related content to be uploaded within hours of the game being released.

It is being recalled to avoid insult to Muslims, not because the words of the Qur'an are offensive to others.
So then why wasn't Civilization 4 recalled when people found out that The Lord's Prayer was sung on the main screen? Is that not an insult to Christians?
"Is that not an insult to Christians?" - no, it's not because Christians don't hold that sort of use of the Lord's prayer as offensive.
It's interesting how many people are displaying a total lack of understanding with regards to this issue.
This would have been a non issue if the "offended" people would have just kept their mouths shut. No one would have known where the music came from or what it meant, but they just had to open their mouths.
Thanks for nothing..
P.S. I agree with the author, so many horrible things in this world, so many things in games that offend people and yet you delay a game because of a song, a song that has won a grammy, been around 2 years and a song no one would have known the meaning to if these people had not opended their big mouths. People need to grow up and stop getting their feelings hurt so much. Be a man and let people enjoy the game for what it is.
I totally agree with this author. If it offense to the Islamic community, then yes it should be taken down. But as a woman, the way women are portrayed in video games is, many times, offense to me and alot of other women. Yet those games don't get delayed to remove the enormous bouncing boobs.
As I said elsewhere (and this article says the same thing), I find it a bit dodgy to complain about two lines from the Quran being offensive while playing games that presumably include Call of Duty or World of Warcraft.
